Artisan Revival Furniture

There's a new furniture company in town. Steve & Shelly Everett create their own hand-made chairs and couches for sale on the Internet.

I've been hired to create images for their website!

Here's a few shots from our first shoot:

Matts' Senior Portraits

I spent a fun afternoon with Matt, wandering the alleys and streets of downtown Newberg, and the new George Fox University soccer field.

Matt is a soccer player, and so I decided to create something unusual for him.

My Images, Being Used!

I got this flyer in the mail the other day, and noticed that the images on the bottom, for the Barrels of Dreams benefit, are mine!

I took them at last year's benefit, and am on tap for this years', too!

It's great to see my work being used and appreciated...

More From The Rural/Metro Shoot

We've had 3 location sessions for the Rural/Metro Ambulance project, with some great successes!

And a failure. One of the ambulances we were using as a model had a transmission failure, and had to be towed away...

And I've learned a new technique - HDR.

It stands for High Dynamic Range.

For example - here is the original image:

Not a bad image, right?

But take the same image, with 3 different exposures, run it through the HDR software, and tweek here & there, and this is what you get:

The colors are much richer, and it just seems to pop.

New Project

I'm working on a new project with Rural/Metro Ambulance in Salem, Oregon. We're creating images for PR, for marketing, the internet, and to create new wall hangings for their lobby.

Shoot #1 was last week.

Shoot #2 is tomorrow!

Photographers Assistant

On occasion, [OK, frequently :)], I find the need for an assistant on location.

They can be invaluable for shlepping equipment, taking care of little problems, and, as seen here, juggling babies and reflectors:

Thanks, Christopher!

Davis Family

I recently had the priviledge of photographing the Davis Family for their annual family portrait.

We created some images in the studio:

Then headed over to Champoeg State Park for some outdoor portraits:

And since their son Lane is into football, created a 'game face' image:

They even brought their nephew:

It was a blast for all & I hope to continue to participate in their tradition!

Convention Update

I spent a great 3 days in classes at the annual PPO Convention, held at the McMenamins Edgefield campus in Troutdale, Oregon.

Met a bunch of new folks, got reacquainted with some photographers I'd met before, did some networking, and learned quite a bit.

We had classes on lighting, marketing, high school seniors, weddings, and more!

I even entered their print competition with this print:

I received a score of 74, which isn't of merit quality, is still considered above average. This image carries much more in emotional impact, but technically has some issues, which I knew about.

I'll do better next time.

Thanks to Iain at Sign-On in Newberg, Oregon, I've got some new signage at a very reasonable price, and just in time for the PPO Convention next week!

Professional Development

I've signed up for the February PPO Convention, to be held nearby. I'm excited to attend, network, and learn about how to create the perfect image.
Stay tuned for more!

Wicked Busy, And Some Updates

My personal, professional, and photography life has been hectic recently.
I'm getting new photography jobs much more frequently, and I've created an account with Zenfolio, which is an on-line image hosting and ordering website. You can check out the Zenfolio site using the link to the right.

Here's some images from some recent photography sessions:

Wendi & Deans Wedding

You might remember I shot their engagement photos last year...

More engagement photos, this time is Erin & Craig.
I've been hired to shoot their beach wedding in October.

This is Jodi and Mike. Jodi called me from Pennsylvania to hire me for this session!
Thanks to Jeanetta for the referral.

And lastly, this is Daniel. His grandmother, who happens to be one of our babysitters, hired me to shoot his High School Senior photos.
These were shot in Cannon Beach, Oregon, on the same day as Jodi & Mikes session.

Eyan

I recently had the opportunity to shoot the newest member of the Newport, Oregon Police Department. No, I didn't end up getting shot myself, and I don't have to appear in court.
We're working on a project...
I captured my images with my Canon, and not only are they on the city's website, here they are:

Education Update

As mentioned previously, I'm taking an extensive Photography course through the New York Institute of Photography.

I just completed Unit Two. This unit required submission of 3 images.

Image One was supposed to show emphasis on a subject by its size and off-center placement:

Image Two should emphasize a subject by framing. This is an old image, but one perfectly suited for this project:

And Image Three emphasizes a subject by the use of leading lines:

Now on to Unit Three and light!
